Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8)
The Housing Authority of Savannah’s waiting list for the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Waiting List is currently closed.
The Housing Authority of Savannah is now accepting online applications from those age 62 or over for the “Rose of Sharon”, “The Veranda” and "Sustainable Fellwood".
Click here to begin your application: On-line application.
The Section 8 program allows low-income families to receive federal housing assistance while enjoying homes outside traditional public housing. Participants pay approximately 30 percent of their adjusted income directly to the landlord. The Housing Authority subsidizes a portion of the rent based on fair market rent guidelines. Eligibility requirements are similar to those for public housing.
Due to the popularity of the program and the limited number of vouchers, the waiting list opens only periodically. The waiting list is closed once an adequate number of applications have been accepted. When this list of applicants is exhausted or if additional HUD vouchers are issued, the waiting list is re-opened. At that time an advertisement is placed in the local newspaper inviting those who believe they are eligible to apply. A notice will also be placed on this web site.
The Housing Authority administers housing assistance payments for over 2,400 privately owned homes and apartments.

Accepting Applications for the Rose of Sharon and The Veranda
The Housing Authority of Savannah is now accepting electronic applications from those age 62 and over for the Rose of Sharon and the Veranda. Applications can only be submitted online by clicking on “Voucher Application.” Hand-delivered and U. S. mailed applications will not be accepted. The waiting list will remain open indefinitely.
The Rose of Sharon and Veranda are part of the Project-Based Housing Voucher Program. This means that rent is based on income. Because HUD has designated these buildings as elderly only, all household members applying must be 62 years of age or older. Applicants will need social security numbers, birthdates and gross monthly income for all household members included on the application. Hitting the submit button will email the application to the Housing Authority and give applicants the opportunity to print a copy for their records. The automatic date and time stamp of the email will serve as the basis for the order of the waiting list.
Applicants must also be United States citizens or have legal immigration status. As their name nears the top of the waiting list, they will be required to verify income eligibility and authorize a criminal background check for all household members.
