The Housing Authority of Savannah is governed by a five member Board of Commissioners. The Board is appointed by the City Council to five year terms. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at 4:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend. It is requested that anyone who desires to address the Board of Commissioners contact the Executive Director at least 24 hours prior to the meeting in order that his/her concerns can be placed on the agenda. However, anyone requesting to speak at the meeting will have the opportunity at a time preceding adjournment of the meeting.

Charlena Brown, Chairperson
Charlena Brown was unanimously elected as Chairperson of the Housing Authority of Savannah’s Board of Commissioners on February 6, 2008. She has served on the HAS Board since 2004. Chairperson Brown brings over thirty years of entrepreneurial experience to her new position. Chairperson Brown is an active member of the community. She is a member and former secretary of the Savannah-Chatham County Fair Housing Council and a member of the Savannah Development and Renewal Authority Advisory Board.

Stephen Greenberg, Vice Chairman
Stephen Greenberg previously served as a Commissioner on the HAS Board for seven years from 1982 through 1989. After a fifteen year absence, he returned to the Board on January 14, 2004. Commissioner Greenberg has served as Vice Chairman since August 3, 2005. Commissioner Greenberg was appointed to a second term by City Council in December 2005.

Beckie Gaston-Dawson
Commissioner Beckie Gaston-Dawson began her service as Commissioner to the Board on April 6, 2005 after her appointment by City Council on March 16, 2005.

Barbara King
Commissioner Barbara King is the Resident Commissioner of the Board. Commissioner King was appointed by City Council on June 23, 2005 and took her oath of office on August 3, 2005.

Edward Ellis, Jr.
Rev. Edward Ellis, Jr. previously served on the Board of Commissioners for five years from August 1990 through June 1995. Commissioner Ellis took his oath of office for his second term, after nearly thirteen years, on January 9, 2008.

Resident Advisors
The Neighborhood Residents at Work, Inc. (the primary resident organization at HAS) has the responsibility of appointing two Housing Authority residents to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Commissioners. The Resident Advisors serve for a term of two years. The first two residents to serve as advisors to the Board were appointed in October 1995.

Katina Griffin
Ms. Griffin has served as a Resident Advisor to the Board of Commissioners since June 7, 2006.

Marye Hamilton
Ms. Hamilton began serving as Resident Advisor on August 6, 2008.
